Stuff to read
We'll start with it being, in Kevin's words, more of a book club. Sorry. :) I can try and make sure that there are specific questions/problems to think about each week if that would help.
For Mar 10:
- Studying Young Stars -- including page on SEDs that is linked from there.
- Finding cluster members
- and the ic2118 paper, submitted version (see your email).
For Apr 14:
- KEVIN -- Reipurth and Pettersson 1993 http://articles.adsabs.harvard.edu/cgi-bin/nph-iarticle_query?1993A%26A...267..439R&data_type=PDF_HIGH&whole_paper=YES&type=PRINTER&filetype=.pdf
For Apr 21:
- VIVIAN -- Kim et al 2003 http://adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2003csss...12..799K Full Paper link click here. [1]
For Apr 28:
- CHELEN -- Kim 2005 http://articles.adsabs.harvard.edu/cgi-bin/nph-iarticle_query?2003ASPC..287..275K&data_type=PDF_HIGH&whole_paper=YES&type=PRINTER&filetype=.pdf
For May 5:
- CAROLYN -- Choudhury and Bhatt 2008 http://arxiv.org/PS_cache/arxiv/pdf/0811/0811.4389v1.pdf the ADS entry is http://adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2009MNRAS.393..959C and I downloaded the real journal article for you (easier to read!) here: media:choud.pdf
This should work like a journal club, e.g., the named person takes the lead in presenting the article. You should present things along the lines of the following:
- the main point of this work was ...
- what they did was ... (high level summary, no need to get into nitty gritty details)
- the most interesting thing i learned was ...
- what they did that i agree with is ...
- what they did that i disagree with is ...
- and, for us here, the reason we should care about this in the context of our CG4 work is ...
EVERYONE should read the papers ahead of time, but it's kind of expected that the named person will spend the most time reading the paper in question!
Stuff to do
Work through the Research Tools sections on the Wiki. Guide - Working with L1688, assembled for last year's team, and which I'll have to update.
Work together on Leopard ... what can the Previews do for you? how to use overlays? which overlays to use? Or use SHA which might be fully deployed by then?
Once everyone has the data downloaded, work together with APT on channel 1. Then, we can try the other channels by ourselves. This may be somethign for the visit.
